On my third day in Warsaw, Poland, I took a relaxing lay back day. I was wondering around Warsaw by myself on my third day because my friend she had a 20 pages research paper due within a day and she decided to stay in our Airbnb to work on it. My first stop for the day was Copernicus Science Centre right by the Vistula River.

The second day in Warsaw I went to Palace of Culture and Science. Palace of Culture and Science was the very first building I saw when I first left Warsaw airport and got out of the metro in downtown Warsaw area, and I also saw it every day because my Airbnb happened to be right across from it. Palace of Culture and Science was a gift from the Soviet Union to Poland during the communist occupation era. At first, Polish people resented it because of its communist origin, but now not so much.

I apologize for the lack of blog posts for the past month. I have been busy traveling and dealing with school. After working full-time over summer break, the day I had long been waiting for had finally arrived – the day for me to depart Chicago and to start my journey in Europe. Moving out from my apartment was a pain, the monthly storage price for all my stuff was passable. Nonetheless, 8 hours later, I landed in Warsaw, Poland. First stop right out of the airport was Old Town of Warsaw, not that I particularly wanted to see the neighborhood right away, but because I was starving. After some delicious pierogies, I walked around Old Town to check it out.

I have to start by apologizing first. Sorry that I keep lying to you that I will start blogging about Taiwan. After this one, I promise I’ll start blogging about my travel in Taiwan over the winter and Taiwan in general. A few weekends ago, I managed to tag along with few photographers here in Chicago and joined them to go around rooftops in downtown Chicago for incredible views, and I was also at the same time able to time some amazing photos, check them out below!

Abandoned Surrey Public Market

At the end of May and beginning of June, I went back to Canada for two weeks to visit family and catch up with friends. Of course, having picked up urbex as my new hobby, I wouldn’t let go of the chance to explore some abandoned places around Metro Vancouver area. It is a lot harder to have abandoned places in Vancouver area than Chicago area because the government and owners in Vancouver area tend to tear down abandoned structures and build new ones right away. Despite that being said, I was able to take my brother to explore the abandoned Surrey Public Market for his first urbex experience. My brother and I also planned to go to the abandoned Riverside Hospital but unfortunately, there was a film crew there making a movie, so we just end up going to an indoor shooting range.

Urbex Adventure in Gary, Indiana

Note: All photos are mine unless otherwise stated                                                                               Disclaimer: Trespassing is illegal, you are responsible for your actions, this blog does not promote any illegal activities

The Sunday before my final exams week, I finally got the chance to go down to Gary, Indiana with few other fellow photographers to explore some abandoned buildings we have heard about. Just like any other industrial towns, once the US Steel left Gary, both the population and the economics started to decline, which results in what Gary is now, half the town is abandoned, but it is also because of this that makes it a perfect place for us urban explorers. As I said in my disclaimer, trespassing is illegal, however for Gary, you can contact the city and get a photography permit, which allows you to go in and take photos of City Methodist Church, Union Train Station, and Palace Theater. The permit is $50 a person; it is worth it because it saves you the trouble from the police. The other two places we went to were not included in the permit, one I don’t know the name of it, it is located in between Palace Theater and the post office, and the second place not on the permit was the post office.

Few weekends ago, I joined few fellow photographers and urbex enthusiasts on an adventure. We were supposed to go down to Gary, Indiana to check out few abandoned places. However, the weather condition wasn’t ideal. Therefore, we decided not to go, and instead, we drove around Chicago until we came across this abandoned factory facility. Below are some selected photos of this what appeared used to a syrup factory.
